The 25 year old reveals he caught shoe designer MCCaffrey off-guard with his proposal as she planned to throw him a surprise birthday party in November (13), but he decided to turn the tables on her and transformed it into an engagement party.
He explains to Hello! magazine, "It was like a military operation to plan the proposal. I couldn't even tell the other boys in the band in case they blew the surprise.
"I said to her, 'I wanted a present I would always remember this year by - for you to be my wife.' I'd bought the ring months before I'd been trying to figure out the right time. I love her, I love every bit of her."
The singer specially designed a three-carat diamond solitaire ring for his now-fiancee, who was initially too overwhelmed and declined his lavish proposal, but eventually accepted.
MCCaffrey, who has been dating Kaneswaran for the past six years, gushes, "I'm still in shock. I don't like surprises and he really surprised me, but I was so happy. I can't wait to start planning the wedding."
Kaneswaran is not the first member of The Wanted to be engaged - his bandmate Max George was previously set to wed British actress Michelle Keegan, but the couple split in 2012.
