British singer MIKE SKINNER has repented for stealing a microphone - by writing an apologetic song about the incident.

The Streets frontman has confessed all about his criminal episode on the track, which describes how he stole the microphone when he was a struggling musician during an interview with DJ JO WHILEY for BBC's Radio 1 station.

A source says, "Mike recorded most of his first album (ORIGINAL PIRATE MATERIAL) and all of his second (A GRAND DON'T COME FOR FREE) with this stolen microphone.

"But now he has decided to come clean and he wrote Jo a song in the form of a Bloc Party remix, apologising for his thrifty fingers."
