Gemma Arterton believes she has reached the stage in her career where she can turn down roles she isn't completely happy with.
Gemma Arteton is not afraid to turn down film roles.
The British actress thinks she was too eager accept job offers when she first started out in Hollywood because as a woman you have to work harder to make it but now she has starred in several hit films she can afford to be more choosy about her work.
She said: "I can spot them quite early on now. When I read The Script, I'm like, 'Hmph! No.' I think it happens in most jobs where women aren't equal. You have to fight through that barrier and when you do, you feel emancipated and you can do your thing."
Gemma admits she isn't proud of all the movies she has made in her relatively short career, but she insists every project has been an important step on her Journey to success.
The 26-year-old screen beauty - who is currently shooting 'Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters' - explained to America's Vogue magazine: "Those roles served their purpose. But because I come from a theatre background, all of a sudden, you're like, 'What am I doing? I never imagined myself in that kind of film.' "
