The Police drummer STEWART COPELAND has apologised to Chilean President Michelle Bachelet for making derogatory comments about her Copeland - who is currently on the South American leg of the band's reunion tour - was accused of disrespecting the country's first female leader by criticising her looks, after he told Chile's Mercurio newspaper, "Look, the future President of Argentina would be good for one beer, yours (would be good) for four." But in a letter to president, the 55-year-old insisted his words were taken out of context and urged her to join them at their gig in Santiago, Chile, on Wednesday (05Dec07). He writes, "I was mortified to learn this remark reached you and you were asked to comment on such a trivial matter. "If by chance you are able, (bandmates) Sting, Andy (Summers) and I would welcome the opportunity to personally express our admiration for you and your wonderful country by extending an invitation to you and your guests to attend our performance."
