A Brazilian priest has died from a heart attack during a screening of MEL GIBSON's controversial film The Passion Of The Christ.

Presbyterian JOSE SOARES, 43, his wife and two children were watching the movie in a cinema he had booked for his congregation in Belo Horizonte last weekend (20-21MAR04).

Halfway through the two hour film, Soares' wife noticed her husband had stopped breathing. Doctors confirmed he suffered a heart attack.

The movie about the last 12 hours of Jesus Christ's life has caused controversy due to its extremely violent content and many Jewish groups have accused it of anti-Semitism.

Last month (FEB04) an American woman passed out during a showing of the film in Wichita, Kansas and later died in hospital.
