Sales of DVDs and Blu-ray Discs are making a comeback, an analysis of first-quarter sales appear to indicate. According to The New York Times, which cited a study by the industry organization Digital Entertainment Group (DEG), spending for home entertainment rose about 5 percent in the first quarter versus the same period a year ago, driven by strong demand for such films as Skyfall and Argo. In fact, the movies that were released during the quarter had grossed 29 percent more in theaters than those that were released in the same period in 2012. Time Warner CFO John Martin remarked, It's particularly encouraging to see these signs of stabilization. Sales were aided by electronic sellthrough, which rose 20 percent during the quarter from a year ago.
