Top American newspaper The New York Times has become the brunt of many jokes again after running a Bob Hope obituary written by a dead critic.

The respected read, which was recently at the centre of a scandal when a reporter confessed he had made up an interview, is again struggling to save face.

Red-faced editors alerted readers to Hope's death by running an obituary written by VINCENT CANBY, a veteran Times critic who died in 2000.

Longtime readers felt the gaffe was inappropriate and alerted editors to it, insisting it was bad taste to have one dead man writing about another.
