The Lord Of The Rings: THE TWO TOWERS and movie mogul Steven Spielberg were the big winners at the 29th annual SATURN AWARDS - which recognise excellence in science fiction.

Spielberg attended the event on Sunday (18MAY03) and accepted the Best Director award, for Minority Report, and the Best Single TV Programme Presentation award, for alien invasion TV series TAKEN.

Minority Report was also named Best Science Fiction Film.

The Lord of The Rings sequel was selected as Best Fantasy Film, and British actor Andy Serkis, who played Gollum, took home the Best Supporting Actor prize.

The Saturns' DONALD A REED honour for Innovation went to TITANIC director James Cameron.

The movie maker sent a taped acceptance from the Cannes Film Festival.
