Music from The Lord Of The Rings movie trilogy has beaten scores from STAR WARS and Lawrence Of Arabia to be voted the greatest film soundtrack of all time.

Composer HOWARD SHORE's dramatic music for the popular adaptations of author JRR TOLKIEN's best-selling books, has topped a survey of favourite film themes, by UK radio station CLASSIC FM.

JOHN WILLIAMS - who makes a staggering eight appearances in the top 40 - claimed the second place for his legendary Star Wars scores, followed by HANS ZIMMER's music for movie epic Gladiator.

Classic FM boss DARREN HENLEY says, "Howard Shore and John Williams are the (WOLFGANG AMADEUS) MOZART and (LUDWIG VAN) Beethoven of their generation."
