Review of PULL A U Single by The Kills

THE KILLS “PULL A U” Released October 20th on Domino Records - Single Review

Released October 20th

Domino Records

The British and American twosome; Hotel and VV Kills extract one of the darker offerings from their heavily praised debut album ‘Keep On Your Mean Side’. The intro contains razor sharp riffs and pulsing drum beats leading into VV’s sharp and cutting PJ Harvey with a measure of Patti Smith vocals, delivering punchy and sinister lyrics:

Music - THE KILLS “PULL A U” Released October 20th on Domino Records - Single Review

“Pull A U and your sexy car, got your black magic

and your two dollar love.”

This is powerful raw blues rock that pulls no punches and goes someway towards justifying all the hype that surrounds The Kills.

The intensity of the relationship between the two protagonists gives them and their music the edge over similar artists in the eyes of many. The B-side is as intriguing as the main track on the basis that the Jonathon Fire Eater cover ‘The Search For Cherry Red’, brings out the tender side of The Kills. VV’s vocals are notably softer and slower being complemented by Hotel’s hoarse vocals in a stirring rendition.
