US rockers PANIC! AT THE DISCO have ruled out a "reaction" to their much maligned 'emo' tag by taking their music in a different direction. The Las Vegas band insist their new album won't hold any surprises for die-hard fans, despite criticisms from fellow rockers, including The Killers, who place them in the 'emo' movement - emotional rock performed by musicians from comfortable backgrounds. Guitarist RYAN ROSS says, "I don't think our new record will be any kind of reaction against emo. "But then I don't really think our first album fit into any category. We didn't consciously go in any direction or write songs that would necessarily fit in a particular genre and we're not going to be doing that now." The band will start work on the follow-up to hit debut A FEVER YOU CAN'T SWEAT OUT later this year (06).
