Former Jam frontman Paul Weller is to be honoured at next year's (FEB06) Brit Awards with an outstanding contribution award.

The GOING UNDERGROUND hitmaker also enjoyed musical success with The Style Council, before launching an acclaimed solo career spanning eight albums.

A Brit organiser say, "The outstanding contribution award is the highest honour the UK record industry can bestow.

"It is reserved for those whose influence, longevity and creativity put them in the very top ranks of UK artists. Paul Weller is an artist who scores on every measure and typifies the range and quality of British music at its best."

Previous winners of the prestigious award include Sting, U2 and David Bowie.
