The Grudge - It never forgives, it never forgets - Trailer
Acclaimed as one of the best horror movies to be released in the new millennium, Universal Pictures Video release The Grudge on DVD and VHS from the 14th February 2005, just in time for that perfect bloody valentine’s gift.
The Grudge is a masterpiece of modern horror, set in a modest suburban house in Tokyo that belies the hidden terror that lies within. Karen (Sarah Michelle Gellar) is an exchange student studying social work in Japan who innocently agrees to cover for a nurse who didn't show up for work. When she enters the assigned home, she discovers an elderly American woman who is lost in a catatonic state while the rest of the house appears deserted and dishevelled.
As she is tending to the stricken old woman, Emma (Grace Zabriskie), Karen hears strange scratching sounds from upstairs. When she investigates, she is faced with a supernatural horror more frightening than she could ever imagine. Within this house, a chain of terror has been set in motion resulting from a terrifying evil that was born years before. As more people die, Karen is pulled into the cycle of horror and learns the secret of the vengeful curse that has taken root in this house. Now she must stop it before it's too late.
The Grudge uses all the classic old-school horror techniques to keep the audience on the edge of their seats throughout the film. The terror at points is so intensely insane that after each scene you are left with a pumping heart and cold shivers running down your spine, taking you back to those teenage days when you first discovered just what a real horror movie made you feel like.
The Grudge is the first production from Ghost House, a new film company set up by Sam Raimi, the man responsible for classic horror titles such as Evil Dead and the director of Spider-man and Spider-man 2.
Directed by Takashi Shimizu from a screenplay by Stephen Susco based on the original Japanese JU-ON (meaning The Grudge). Takashi Shimizu first made JU-ON as a college short film, which was immediately met with critical acclaim by Japanese filmgoers. The Grudge stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jason Behr, Bill Pullman, Clea Duvall, Grace Zabriskie and Kadee Strickland
