Green Man Festival are offering unsigned talent the opportunity of performing live on the Mountain Stage, on Friday 16th August. It's free to enter, and the winner will find themselves opening this year's festival.
Green Man Rising will see one lucky act play the Mountain Stage, the very same stage that has hosted music legends such as The Flaming Lips, Robert Plant, Laura Marling, Mumford & Sons, Fleet Foxes and Bon Iver. This year will see Band of Horses, Patti Smith, Ben Howard, Kings of Convenience, The Horrors, John Cale, Midlake and Local Natives!
Green Man is the go-to festival to see new and emerging talent, with many of these acts starting further down the bill in previous years including Mumford & Sons, Joanna Newsom, Laura Marling, Ben Howard, Michael Kiwanuka, Lucy Rose, Daughter, Noah & The Whale, and Johnny Flynn. Green Man Rising artists are always given the once over by managers, agents and music press, giving entrants exposure to the finest, loveliest, discerning music lovers on the planet - the Green Man audience. The winners will also receive +1's to the festival and a festival rider!
This year's music industry expert judges will include Huw Stephens (Radio 1), MOJO Magazine's editor Phil Alexander, Moshi Moshi label boss Stephen Bass, Domino Records A&R/Transparent label boss Jack Shankly and Clash Magazine's online editor Mike Diver, and Green Man Booker Ben Coleman. Ben says "Green Man Rising is inspired by our passion for discovering, supporting and sharing brilliant new music. It costs nothing to take part so if you think you need to be heard, then we can't wait to hear it."
For four weeks the public will vote for their favourite act, the top three with the most public votes will go through to the live final on Thursday 18th July, joining them in the final will be three acts hand-picked by Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens. Voting closes at 8pm sharp on 8th July.
The live final will take place at the legendary music venue the Dublin Castle in Camden. It has been run by the same family for over 28 years and is recognised as the birthplace of Madness. The venue's stage has also been graced by the likes of Billy Bragg, Blur, Amy Winehouse, The Arctic Monkeys and Supergrass... to name a few.
