This week's Monday Night Football telecast of the New Orleans Saints-Atlanta Falcons game was watched by a massive 80 percent of all television viewers in New Orleans, according to Nielsen figures. The Game was carried by both the local NBC affiliate, WDSU-TV, and on cable's ESPN. (Local stations are permitted to carry ESPN and NFL Network telecasts in the city of the visiting team and the city hosting the game provided that the game is a sell-out). In New Orleans the local station, WDSU, with a 39.3 rating, attracted 60 percent of those tuning into the game, while ESPN pulled a 24.7 rating, representing 40 percent. Nielsen does not measure out-of-home viewers, like those watching the game in bars, restaurants, airport lounges, etc. In Atlanta the game was watched by 54 percent of TV viewers.
