NBC executives must be hoping that ratings for its fall season will resemble the penultimate week of its summer season. (Ah, if only the regular football season could last past January.) The network was easily the highest-rated of the Big 4 last week in the key 18-49 age group, thanks mostly to Sunday Night Football and its assorted offshoots. The Game itself between the San Francisco Giants and the Seattle Seahawks drew 20.54 million viewers. (Despite the fact that the game was televised, tickets before the game averaged $550 on the secondary market, according to Forbes.) A Football Night In America special that aired during a rain-delay kept 17.84 million tuned in and was the second most-watched show of the week. CBS's 60 Minutes, aided by a football run-over that preceded it was the only non-football program among the top five, drawing 12.45 million viewers. And despite having to compete against football on ESPN, CBS's Under the Dome remained the highest-rated scripted show with 9.72 million viewers. The crisis in Syria boosted ratings of the evening newscasts, with NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams pushing well past 8 million viewers for the first time this summer to 8.30 million. ABC World News with Diane Sawyer came close to the 8-million mark with 7.95 million, while the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley averaged 6.08 million. Despite NBC's dominance among the key demo, CBS managed to eke out a win among total viewers with a 4.4 rating and a 7 share to NBC's 4.3/7. ABC placed second with a 2.9/5, while Fox trailed with a 2.5/4.
