A 22-year-old student was sentenced to life imprisonment today (08AUG05) after he was found guilty of murdering BILLY ELLIOTT literary agent ROD HALL last year (04).
Hall ran a leading British literary agency and was responsible for bringing hit British movies The Full Monty and Billy Elliott to the big screen.
He was found dead in his Southwark, south London home in May 2004 after Edinburgh University student USMAN DURRANI stabbed him 20 times.
Prosecutor AFTAB JAFFERJEE told the jury at London's Old Bailey court, Durrani was a former gay lover of Hall's who became bitter after their relationship ended.
Jafferjee said, "Mr Hall was killed out of anger and revenge which had festered over time. Mr Hall was a gentle, caring and mild mannered man who was professionally very successful."
Judge GERALD GORDON remarked, "It is clear there was a homosexual sadomasochistic element to this offence. There was also an element of mental and physical suffering and goading before the fatal stabbing."
