The Exorcist director William Friedkin and author William Peter Blatty have settled their lawsuit over profit participation on the eve of a trial with Warner Brothers bosses.

The two Williams were due to go to court today (15JUL03) to fight for royalties, after claiming studio heads at Warner Bros reneged on a deal over rights to their classic horror film.

But the pair settled yesterday (14JUL03) with prejudice, meaning the writer and director cannot refile the same claim at a later date. Neither side has divulged details of the settlement, but Blatty and Friedkin pegged damages at $10 million (GBP6.25 million).
