The next installment of the Marvel/Disney Iron Man franchise will likely contain elements targeted at Chinese audiences. That appeared to be assured following the announcement on Sunday the Iron Man 3 will be a joint production of Marvel/Disney and Beijing-based DMG Entertainment. The Deal would appear to guarantee a release for the film in China which currently limits the number of foreign features shown there each year to 20 (plus 14 3D or IMAX titles). Speaking at a news conference in Beijing, Rob Steffens, Marvel's general manager of operations and finance, said, "We are confident that Marvel s stories will continue to be enjoyed by Chinese audiences, and adding a local flavor, and working with our new local partner, will enhance the appeal and relevance of our characters in China s fast-growing film marketplace." The film is scheduled to open in the U.S. on May 3, 2013.
