The Darkness are desperate to capitalise on their BRIT AWARDS success and lay down tracks for their second album.

The British rockers bagged three gongs at the prestigious ceremony on Tuesday (17FEB04), and guitarist Dan Hawkins insists the songs they've recently written are "real gems" - so they're keen to record them quickly to maintain the hype surrounding them.

Hawkins says, "Apart from world domination our objective is writing the second album. We're totally geared up for the next album. We're writing it already and we've already got a few real gems.

"It's one of those things, you've got to strike while the iron is hot and we're pretty creative at the moment.

"You'd think we'd be completely devoid of ideas, but in the two days we spent in the studio in Melbourne (the band recently toured Australia) we had eight ideas, four of which are almost completed songs and two of which we're gonna introduce into the live set quite soon. So we're right on course."
