The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe fought off competition from Harry Potter AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE to become a record-breaker at the UK box office last weekend (10-11DEC05).
The CS LEWIS classic wowed audiences across the country, making the magical adventures of the PEVENSIE siblings the biggest UK opening Disney film with takings of GBP8 million ($14.4 million) - beating previous record-holder Toy Story 2. It has reached number one spot in 14 nations worldwide, and catapulted the re-released paperback book to a children's bestseller, with a staggering 42,000 copies sold in Britain alone, during the lead up to the film's release.
Last week's number one, Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire, dropped to second place, making only a quarter of The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe's revenue. Jodie Foster thriller FLIGHTPLAN, KEEPING MUM and The Exorcism of Emily Rose complete the top five UK films.
