What You Heard
'What You Heard' is what you have been waiting for from The Checks, released on Full Time Hobby on 24th September 2007 on CD and limited 7" vinyl.
After two limited edition 7 inches, 'What You heard' is the first single proper to be taken from young New Zealanders The Checks' forthcoming debut album, Hunting Whales (out 1st October). The raucous groove and power of 'What You Heard' typifies The Checks own brand of bluesy, utterly infectious rock and highlights singer Ed Knowles' startling, age defying rasping roar of a voice. A young old fashioned frontman, and not a scratchy guitar in sight.
Since forming at school at the tender age of 15, The Checks have had a meteoric rise in their native New Zealand. Courted by rock royalty - from Sub Pop to Poptones they finally signed with UK label Full Time Hobby. They soon re-located to London and immediately got down to recording their debut album with producer Ian Broudie (The Coral, The Zutons, Echo & The Bunnymen).
