The band split in 1988, after a 12-year-career that spawned classic tracks like MY BEST FRIEND'S GIRL and the Live Aid anthem DRIVE.
Easton confirmed the plans last week (ends18NOV05) with a posting on music industry message board theVelvetRope.com, answering critics who were sceptical of a Cars comeback without Ocasek.
He stated, "If other members don't want to be in the band any longer, after being repeatedly encouraged to be involved, should we simply forfeit our careers and all that we have built?"
"We love this band and have ultimate respect for our legacy. Todd is an immensely gifted singer, songwriter and producer. We have recorded some tracks with him, and guess what? It sounds like classic Cars with the added dimension of Todd's talents."
