The Bachelorette aired its season premiere on Monday (15th May 2011), just hours after news broke that 'The Bachelor' star Brad Womack had split from his potential bride Emily Maynard, reports the Los Angeles Times. This year's 'Bachelorette' Ashley Hebert began her quest for love shortly after Maynard returned the engagement ring that she received from Womack last year.
Herbert, who was rejected by Womack on last season's 'The Bachelor', began last night's episode by meeting her potential husbands at 'the mansion'. Among the suitors was 'Tim', a contestant who was eventually shown the door for being drunk. Elsewhere, 'Jeff' insisted on wearing a mask in order to conceal his looks, and 'Bentley' made it clear he would rather be vying for the affections of Emily Maynard. After meeting the 25 contestants, Hebert aired her reservations to host Chris Harrison, saying, "I'm very concerned that some of the guys aren't coming on here for me or the possibility of falling in love. I spoke to a past contestant, somebody that I was close to in the house, and they made me aware that someone that's coming on the show is here for not a good intention..." A short clip during the season opener previewed Ashley's international adventures with the contestants. Forthcoming episodes will include trips to Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Fiji.
This year's 'Bachelorette' Ashley Hebert is a 26-year-old dental student from Madawaska, Maine. She was eliminated during week nine of last season's 'The Bachelor'.
