The 40-YEAR-OLD-VIRGIN has had another amazing weekend at the US box office - by beating off a challenge from Terry Gilliam's The Brothers Grimm to claim the top spot for a second week.

The film, starring Anchorman's Steve Carell, surprised many movie experts when it crashed in at number one a week ago - and it's still there.

The 40-Year-Old Virgin's second week total of $16.4 million (GBP9.1 million) was more than a million over Gilliam's fantasy film, which claimed a disappointing $15 million (GBP8.3 million) gross, according to figures released yesterday (28AUG05).

Meanwhile, sky high thriller Red Eye, Four Brothers and Wedding Crashers all dropped a place to numbers three, four and five respectively.

Alongside The Brothers Grimm, which stars Matt Damon and Heath Ledger as storytelling siblings, the only other top 10 new entry was horror film The Cave at number six.
