Rocker Ted Nugent has risked the wrath of outraged Americans by urging U.S. citizens to stand by the country's gun laws in the aftermath of the Connecticut shooting.
The musician, who is a keen hunter and outdoors man, has long supported Americans' right to bear arms and he is adamant politicians should not look to change the law following the shooting of 20 young children at a school in Newtown on Friday (14Dec12).
Six adults at the school were also killed in the rampage, allegedly perpetrated by 20-year-old Adam Lanza, who also reportedly shot dead his own mother before turning his gun on himself.
The horrific incident has sparked debate over whether American politicians should tighten up the country's laws on gun control, but Nugent has now risked offending grief-stricken citizens by making a series of barbed comments on his Twitter.com page.
He writes, "Our family is phenomenal loving (sic) we take our kids huntin (sic) so we don't hafta (have to) hunt for our kids... More than 100 million lawful gun owners would be punished & restricted due to the criminal abuse by .00001 per cent (it) is pure insanity. No thank U (sic)... (Politicians have) full time tax paid for security toting the very firearms they wish to deny we the people... 300 million American guns were not misused again this week - leave us the hell alone."
