Andrew Hardwick was taken into custody alongside his wife, Joni, in Hendersonville on Saturday (26Dec15) amid allegations he had hit two young girls who had been in the couple's care.

One of the kids, a three-year-old, had to be airlifted to Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital for a concussion, while she also suffered "severe bruising and swelling to the face", according to The Tennessean.

The other child, aged five, reportedly told a witness Hardwick had lashed out at both girls, prompting them to call police. She did not require medical attention and was released to her family after police arrived to investigate.

The three-year-old remained hospitalised on Monday (28Dec15).

Hardwick was charged with aggravated child abuse, while his wife Joni was booked for assault on an officer and resisting arrest.

A relative named Christopher Hardwick admitted to cops that the men had been drinking prior to the alleged incident, and he was also taken into custody for assault and disorderly conduct after reportedly shoving an officer away as they arrived on the scene.

They have since been released on bonds and are set to face the charges in court in February (16).

Swift referred to Hardwick as "Drew" on Teardrops On My Guitar, in which she detailed her feelings for her classmate, who was oblivious to her crush.
