Actor Taye Diggs is using his ex-wife Idina Menzel's hit song Let It Go as a mantra for his life after their split.

The couple finalised their divorce in December (14), ending a 10-year marriage and a relationship that begin when they met performing in the original Broadway production of Rent in 1995.

Diggs, who shares five-year-old son Walker with the singer/actress, has taken a liking to her Oscar-winning Frozen song Let It Go and he now uses it to remind him to move forward with his new life as a single dad.

He tells People, "I use it (Let It Go) as more of a mantra these days. Last year was a tough year for many reasons and I think all of us could use that lesson to release and keep moving on and not hold on to stuff."

The former Private Practice star insists the marriage ended amicably because their first priority in the matter was their son.

He adds, "We were friends to start out with, but especially when you have a kid in the mix, there's no time for any negativity. He's our main objective, he's what's most important for us, so we're still there as a family."

Diggs and Menzel agreed to share joint custody, and they are also splitting all parenting costs evenly with no child support, according to
