Tamara Ecclestone has called in police after allegedly being blackmailed.
The 27-year-old socialite - the daughter of billionaire Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone - was said to have been "horrified" when she received a letter warning her shocking claims about her personal life made by a former close friend would be revealed if she did not pay a "tidy sum", believed to be six figures.
A friend of the star told The Sun newspaper: "She was horrified to get the letter, which was quite intimidating.
"It was just an insulting slur meant to have been said by someone she knew years ago."
Tamara reported the matter to police on Monday (05.12.11) and was interviewed by officers, who are also planning to discuss the allegation with the former friend mentioned in the letter.
A police spokesman said: "On Monday December 5 police from Kensington and Chelsea borough received a complaint regarding an inappropriate communication relating to the release of personal information.
"The allegation was assessed and is now being investigated at this early stage as blackmail. CID in Kensington and Chelsea are investigating.
"No one has been arrested. Inquiries continue."
