Take That star Gary Barlow was worried staging a concert to mark his 40th birthday would be "egotistical" and nearly scrapped his plans until his wife convinced him to go ahead with the show.
The singer/songwriter will reach the milestone on Thursday (20Jan11) and he has organised a special charity gig in London to mark his big day.
But Barlow admits he was initially worried the show, his first solo concert in 11 years, would be viewed as too self-indulgent.
He tells BBC Radio 2, "It's been a dangerous one, this... It sounds very egotistical having a gig for my birthday. That was my only worry to be honest, but my wife said, 'What do you want to do? You should do what you really want to do on your birthday,' and I said, 'I want to do a concert!' because I do love going on stage and singing.
"We've got a 1,200 strong fanbase, friends and family and I think it'll be a really low-key nice event. I think it's going to be all good vibes, I'm looking forward to it."
