Former THREE'S COMPANY star Suzanne Somers blames the high incidence of alcoholism in her family on her Irish roots.

The blonde actress grew up with a father who was an alcoholic, as were many of her relatives - and she believes her heritage has a lot to do with it.

She says, "My people are from Ireland so we have a bit of a drinking problem.

"My father was an alcoholic and I'm so glad that he was my father, I really am. But it was a rollercoaster ride with him.

"We had so much alcoholism in our family when I was growing up, I thought that the reason that people died was they got cirrhoses of the liver.

"Funerals were fantastic because it was one big drunk (gathering)."
