The family of Survivor rocker Jimi Jamison has thanked fans for the outpouring of support following his sudden death on Sunday (31Aug14).
The singer, 63, passed away after suffering a heart attack at his home in Memphis, Tennessee. He was found around 1am local time on Monday (01Sep14) by his son.
His loved ones confirmed the sad news with a statement on Jamison's official Facebook.com page which reads: "We are saddened and heartbroken to announce the passing of a great musician, loving father and grandfather, and overall extraordinary, giving, and kindhearted human being. He's loved by so many, most of all his family, and he will be incredibly missed by all.
"Please keep his family in your prayers, and please give them the privacy they need during this extremely difficult time. Thank you all for your condolences and kind words."
Jamison's bandmates also expressed their grief in a Facebook post, saying, "Survivor is very shocked and saddened by the passing of our brother Jimi Jamison. Our thoughts, love and prayers go out to his friends and family."
Fellow musicians have also shared their condolences, including singer Richard Marx, who wrote on Twitter.com, "So sad to hear of Jimi Jamison's sudden passing. Just saw him last December at a benefit. He was a kind and talented man."
Jamison continued to tour with Survivor up until his death, performing in Reno, Nevada on Friday (29Aug14) and Morgan Hill, California on Saturday (30Aug14).
Survivor were due to continue their trek in Colorado on 12 September (14), before heading to Europe for shows in Netherlands, Germany, Sweden and England. The status of those shows was unknown as Wenn went to press.
Jamison's family has requested donations to the rocker's favourite charity, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
