Soul legend Stevie Wonder's first concert tour in more than a decade was inspired by his late mother's final words.
The blind singer hit the stage in San Diego, California on Thursday night (23Aug07) for a well-received hits show - the first of a series of North American dates.
And he told fans they had his mum to thank for his decision to go back on the road.
Wonder explained she told him to "give someone some joy" before she died in 2006 - and that inspired the soul man to plan a tour and play his most uplifting hits.
The Sir Duke hitmaker obviously enjoyed the first show of the tour - after performing for two hours at the Humphrey's Concerts By The Bay venue he told fans he had to end the concert due to a live music curfew and the fact he needed to pee.
Wonder ended the show by telling fans, "I've been holding it for a long time."
