Steven Tyler came under fire over the weekend for his rendition of the US National Anthem 'The Star Spangled Banner.' The veteran Aerosmith singer was performing the rendition at an American Football game between the Baltimore Ravens and the New England Patriotd and delivered what appeared to be a pretty routine Tyler-esque performance of the song, certainly receiving a favorable response among those in attendance, video footage shows.
However, the current 'American Idol' judge came under fire on various websites, reports Msn, with a struggle to hit the high note being cited as one of the most damning aspects of an anthem which, it has to be said, seems constantly be perceived to be above the talents of many. Popular sports blog Deadspin questioned "Steven Tyler's 'Star-Spangled Banner' was terrible, but was it the worst ever?" whilst Espn's commentator Skip Bayless commented "How could Patriots be inspired by that awful anthem sung by Steven Tyler? At least give him some screaming guitars to camouflage voice."
Further dismay poured in through Twitter with Fox News tweeting "I went outside to put a raccoon out of its misery - then I realized my neighbor was watching Steven Tyler sing the Star-Spangled Banner." Tyler did find one fan at least in country singer Jason Michael Carroll who tweeted "I knew 'the scream' was coming! (Tyler) is always amazing!"
