Filmmaker Steven Soderbergh is putting his retirement plans on hold to step back behind the camera for a new Tv series with Clive Owen.

The Oscar winner, 50, was previously expected to hang up his director's hat after the premiere of his Liberace movie, Behind The Candelabra, which aired on U.S. Tv last month (May13), but he has now signed up to make new show The Knick.

The programme, based in 1900s New York, will centre around groundbreaking surgeons and staff at Knickerbocker Hospital during a period of high mortality rates and a lack of antibiotics.

Bosses at America's Cinemax cable network have already ordered 10 episodes of The Knick, although a premiere date has yet to be set.
