Director Steven Soderbergh has teamed up with an American media company to make digital films for simultaneous release in cinemas, on DVD and TV.

The TRAFFIC movie-maker and 2929 ENTERTAINMENT will produce six movies as part of the deal, despite widespread industry fears the move will cost cinemas millions of dollars in takings.

But 2929's Todd Wagner is convinced 21st Century movie fans should be offered more choice.

He says, "Consumers should have the choice of how they want to consume movies."

Soderbergh's first movie is a thriller titled BUBBLE, which is currently in production.
