Oscar-winning film-maker Steven Soderbergh is launching a brand new high-definition digital film project which movie bosses fear has the potential to "kill cinema".

The innovative SEX, LIES AND VIDEOTAPE director plans to release his new film BUBBLE simultaneously in the cinema, on TV and on DVD.

The move shuts the traditional four month gap between a movie's release on the big screen and its eventual DVD premiere - but it's left cinema owners worried they'll lose out on revenue.

But Soderbergh is convinced it will push the movie industry forwards.

He says, "(It is) where the film business is going.

"It is, I think, absolutely the best way to go - give consumers a choice of how they want to see films."
