Production on 'Magic Mike XXL' has started.

Director, Steven Soderbergh has revealed that production on the sequel to the 2012 film 'Magic Mike' has begun.

On his Twitter page, the film maker announced the news with a photo of a clapperboard emblazoned with the title, 'Magic Mike XXL'. He accompanied the snap with the caption: ''It's ON!''

Steven - who acted as director on the first installment of the stripper film - will return as the movie's cinematographer, camera operator and editor with the former assistant director Gregory Jacobs replacing him as director.

Channing Tatum who played the eponymous Mike in the first film, will also return after having worked on the script with the writer and co-star, Reid Carolin.

'Magic Mike XXL' will reportedly focus on a stripping tour, which takes Mike across the country as he performs his act around America.

'True Blood' actor Joe Manganiello will reprise his role as Richie, however, Alex Pettyfer, Matt Bomer and Academy Award-winning actor, Matthew Mcconaughey have yet to announce their return to the franchise.

'Magic Mike XXL' is due to be released in the US on July 1, 2015 and August 7 in the UK.
