A classic car owned by Hollywood icon Steve McQueen could fetch as much as $12.8 million (£8 million) when it goes under the hammer this summer (14).

The Great Escape star bought the 1967 Ferrari 275 Gtb/4 while working on the film Bullitt, and he had the silver car sprayed red. He owned the vehicle until 1971 when he sold it.

The car is now set to be sold by RM Auctions in Monterey, California in August (14).

Max Girado, of RM Auctions, declined to give an estimate of its expected sale price but experts believe it could fetch as much as $12.8 million.

Girado tells Britain's Daily Express newspaper, "When it comes to cars with celebrity provenance, it doesn't get much better than this."
