Country rocker Steve Earle's scheduled appearance at the upcoming SOUTHEAST ALASKA STATE FAIR has sparked uproar among patriotic locals.
Alaskan newspaper the CHILKAT VALLEY NEWS has been bombarded with angry letters about Earle's gig, because readers are disturbed by his Marxist tendencies and criticism of US President George W Bush.
But the furious response to Earle's inclusion has had a positive effect on ticket sales - over 300 people have already reserved tickets for the 30 July (05) event.
Fair director HERB VanCLEVE enthuses, "We've never pre-sold that many tickets to anything before.
"The general reaction I've gotten from virtually everyone has been 100 per cent in support of what the fair is doing."23/06/2005 21:32
