Comic actor Steve Carell ('The Office', 'Evan Almighty', '40-Year-Old Virgin') is set to star in apocalyptic RomCom 'Seeking a Friend For the End of the World' alongside English beauty Keira Knightley ('The Duchess', 'Pirates of the Caribbean', 'Love Actually').
The slightly dark comedy also stars Carell's real life wife, Nancy Carell, who plays his onscreen wife who leaves him almost immediately after finding out that the world is to end in 3 weeks due to an impending asteroid collision. "I don't think I've ever seen her run that fast", Carell jokes to, "We shot the scene on our 17th anniversary. [The director] got us a cake and the crew sang 'Happy Anniversary' to us. It was very sweet". Keira Knightley plays Carell's character Dodge's neighbour, Penny, who joins him on a trip to reunite with her family and help him find his long lost love before their untimely demises.
Writer-director Lorene Scafaria manages to emphasise the hope, unity and love that is important to retain in an inescapable situation in her dystopic directorial debut. "We're all faced with that inevitability - the end will happen for all of us", Carell explained to New York Daily News, "How do people prioritize, what do they do and how do they act?" On being asked what he wouldn't miss if the end of the world was near, he told, "I would put the dentist up there. I wouldn't miss a lot of reality shows. And I wouldn't miss the pervasive cynicism that seems to be out there, especially in the media".
