Writer/actor Stephen Merchant is struggling to find love because he still feels like "an awkward teenager" around women.
The Brit, who co-wrote TV hits The Office and Extras with Ricky Gervais, has been single since splitting from his girlfriend Claire Jones in 2009.
He says, "I'm not about to slit my wrists, I don't lie awake crying. But meeting the right person is hard. I thought that when you got yourself on TV there would be a door that opened and someone would say, 'Come through to the world of showbiz where everything is easier and these amazing women can't wait to meet you.' But surprisingly that hasn't happened. Just because you've been on (British TV channel) Bbc2 once or twice doesn't make you Warren Beatty."
Merchant also admits that despite his despite his fame, he still feels "intimidated" by the opposite sex.
He adds, "(Success) doesn't fundamentally change who you are. If you were an awkward teenager intimidated by girls that doesn't ever really leave you. There's still a part of you that's, well, once a geek, always a geek."
