Embattled actor Stephen Collins has insisted he does not fit the "clinical or dictionary definition" of a paedophile following his shock sex abuse confession this week (beg15Dec14).

The former 7th Heaven star hit headlines on Wednesday (17Dec14) when he released a statement confirming a slew of allegations against him are true.

He admitted he had inappropriate sexual contact with three female minors between 1973 and 1994, and has now explained himself in a Tv interview with U.S. host Katie Couric.

When Couric asks Collins, 67, whether he is a paedophile, the actor replies, "I do not fit either the clinical or dictionary definition of it... A paedophile is someone who is mainly or wholly attracted to children. I'm not. I had a distortion in my thinking... where I acted out in those ways. But I am absolutely not physically or sexually attracted to children. I'm just not... I remember talking to this (sic) to a therapist and them saying that someone with that attraction would have acted many more times...

"(My actions) were terrible and I regret them deeply but I... don't look at young women that way. I don't and I never did. That might sound incongruous with those actions but those actions had more to do with the distortion in my thinking and a need for attention. It was not a desire to (have) sexual contact with them... That moment in '73 when the physical contact took place, it was the end... It was the opposite of excitement or gratification."
