The Japanese-American actor and his relatives were forced to leave their Los Angeles home and live in a U.S. internment camp in Arkansas following the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii in 1941.

Takei was just five-years-old when his family was relocated, and now he is set to tell his story in the form of a child-friendly comic book as part of his "ongoing mission of spreading awareness of this disgraceful chapter of American history," reports the New York Times.

The 79-year-old plans to release the project next year (18).

Takei previously delved into his tough childhood as inspiration for his Broadway musical Allegiance, in which he also starred, which debuted on Broadway in 2015. It closed in February, 2016.
