Donen, 80, and Portuguese film-maker Manoel de Oliveira, 96, are being described by the event's spokesman as "two great filmmakers who are still working and who deeply influenced and helped to define the modernity of cinema in the 20th century".
Donen gained international acclaim for classic films like FUNNY FACE and CHARADE starring Hollywood icon Audrey Hepburn.
De Oliveira is the oldest working filmmaker in the world - and directs at least one movie a year. He has won four awards at the annual Italian festival - including the SIGNIS award for his comedy UM FILME FALADO (A TALKING PICTURE) last year (03).
The award will be presented at the 61st Venice Film Festival's closing ceremony this Autumn (11SEP04).01/07/2004 21:09
