Stan Lee is creating a brand new character for the big screen.

The comic book legend, who co-created Marvel characters such as Spider-Man, Iron Man, the X-Men and the Incredible Hulk, has teamed up with film producer Avi Arad for a brand new movie project based on an entirely original character.

The pair have a long history as Arad was the former head of Marvel Studios, but now works as a producer on the hugely successful 'Spider-Man' film franchise.

However, the new movie is being shrouded in secrecy with the producer telling The Hollywood Reporter: ''Some titles give away too much.''

The project has been set up at Columbia Pictures, which is the same studio behind the 'Amazing Spider-Man' movies, and Arad will produce with Ari Arad, his partner at Arad Productions. Lee will produce with his POW! Entertainment partner Gill Champion.

Arad said of Lee: ''At the ripe old age of 90, he can still put together magic. He's as sharp as a Japanese cooking knife. His mind is as young as it used to be.''

The untitled movie is still in the early stages but Lee and Arad are expected to meet with prospective screenwriters soon.

Lee has notoriously made cameo appearances in nearly all Marvel comic book adaptations in recent years, including the 'Spider-Man' films, 'The Avengers' and more.
