Hoping to get a headstart on some powerful competition this weekend, the Warner Bros./New Line comedy We're the Millers opened with $6.8 million on Wednesday, a much-higher-than-expected start for a film that has received mostly terrible initial reviews. Those reviews, however, contrasted sharply with the A- score the movie received from moviegoers polled by CinemaScore. If word-of-mouth is translated to ticket sales over the weekend, analysts say, the film could earn between $35-40 million through Sunday. Also opening strongly on Wednesday was Fox 2000's Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, which brought in $5.4 million (and a B+ CinemaScore) and is likely to take in $25-30 million through Sunday, according to pundits' predictions. Both films will face Disney's big-budget Planes and Sony's Elysium beginning on Friday.
