Coming-of-age drama Somersault has entered the record books with an amazing 15 nominations at this year's (04) AUSTRALIAN FILM INSTITUTE AWARDS (AFIs).

Writer and director CAT SHORTLAND's debut movie about the 16-year-old girl is up for a host of gongs, including Best Film, Best Direction, Sam Worthington for Best Actor and Abbie Cornish for Best Actress.

ALKINOS TSILIMIDOS' (corr.) film TOM WHITE is nominated in 12 categories, including Colin Friels for Best Actor and Best Film.

Acting veteran Sam Neill is up twice in the TV category, for leading role in the television drama or comedy for the mini series JESSICA and for Best Direction in television for THE BRUSH OFF.

The winners will be announced at a star-studded ceremony in Melbourne's Regent Theatre on 29 October (04).
