Sofia Vergara is set to star alongside Jason Statham in 'Heat'.

The 'Machete Kills' actress is in talks to play the lead female role in the remake of the 1986 Burt Reynolds movie which tells the story of recovering gambling addict Nick Escalante who works in Las Vegas providing protection to his friends.

According to Variety, Statham has already been lined up to portray Escalante, who comes into contact with Vergara's alter-ego on a personal and professional basis when he is forced to take on a mob after his friend is brutally beaten.

Simon West will direct the motion picture, and William Goldman is to write the script, while Statham and Steve Chasman will produce.

The 'Expendables 2' star will also reunite with director/fight choreographer Cory Yuen on the movie after working alongside him on 2002 action film 'The Transporter'.

Brunette beauty Vergara has a number of projects lined up this year including 'The Smurfs 2' and 'Machete Kills', which also stars Danny Trejo, Jessica Alba, Amber Heard and Mel Gibson.
