The Lost In Translation filmmaker had been attached to bring the classic tale back to the big screen since March (15), but now Deadline.com reports that she has decided to depart from the project because she couldn't see eye to eye with the creative team.

Coppola took over from British director Joe Wright, who had initially been attached to the film, but dropped out to concentrate on his Peter Pan prequel, Pan.

The new The Little Mermaid project is the latest adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's tale - the most successful of which is Disney's 1989 animated version.
